Shark Cartilage

Cartilage is the part of the skeletal system composed of elastic, translucent tissue, most of which converts to bone as animal grow to adulthood. However, some cartilage remains in areas such as the ears, nose, and knees. Because sharks have no bones, cartilage is the primary component of their skeletal system

Shark cartilage has been promoted mostly for anticancer property. In 1983, two researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology published a study showing that shark cartilage contains a substance that significantly inhibits the development of blood vessels that nourish solid tumors, thereby limiting tumor growth. Working independently, medical researchers at found that if one could inhibit angiogenesis-the development of a new blood network- one could prevent the development of tumor-based cancer and metastasis. Further studies have shown that protein amount for 39% in shark cartilage contributes to anti-cancer property.

Shark cartilage has another main active Chondroitin, it amounts to 11-13% of cartilage. Chondroitin is a simple molecule that occurs naturally in the body. It is the major component of cartilage-the tough, connective tissue that cushions the joints. Chondroitin helps to keep cartilage resilient by absorbing fluid water into the connective tissue. It is also believed to block enzymes that break down cartilage and it provides the building blocks needed for cartilage to repair itself. Based on clinical evidence, Chondroitin has proven to be effective in arthritic management which includes.

Shark cartilage powder also got 41% ash. The ash is 60% Calcium and phosphorus at ratio of two part calcium to one part phosphorus. They are valuable for the supplement of Calcium and phosphorus because these two elements are in a natural state and ready to be absorbed by human body.
